Defying gravity: Elise Stephenson is propelling gender equality into orbit title
Dr Elise Stephenson is engineering a more equal future on Earth and in outer space.
Some people are born knowing their purpose in life. It took Dr Elise Stephenson a few plot twists to find hers.
She had always grappled with the slightly clichéd advice about following one’s passions.
“I didn’t know what my passion was. How was I supposed to just find one?” says Stephenson.
“I turned toward the things that angered me, the things I didn’t like, and used that to guide me. Gender inequality was on top of that list.”

As the French Lower House – the National Assembly – would not vote in favour of Barnier’s proposed 2025 budget, the Prime Minister used his executive powers to pass his 2025 budget bill into law without a vote from Members of Parliament.
Join us on a trip to the ANU School of Art & Design Graduating Exhibition title
Every year at The Australian National University, the School of Art & Design Graduating Exhibition is accompanied by a crazy weather event. One year, there were fires and days of 40-degree weather, and another saw torrential rain and flooding.
As I walk through the gallery space before the opening, grey clouds cover the sky after an usually dry and hot spring.
“We are prepared for anything” says Irina Agaronyan, Gallery and Communications Officer at the School of Art & Design (SOAD).
