How to apply for a Master (Advanced) degree

To apply for a Master (Advanced) degree, use the links above to view the admission requirements and how to apply.

If you are a current ANU student enrolled in a Master program, you can apply to transfer to the Advanced version of your program. If you wish to transfer to the Advanced version of your program, even if the program is not listed above, please look for it in ANUHub when you apply to transfer. If you do not see it in the list, please contact us at research.students.cass@anu.edu.au.

Before you commence the thesis component of a Master (Advanced) degree, you will need to gain the agreement of a potential supervisor. To find a potential supervisor, check the ANU researcher website to find an academic undertaking research in a field that you're interested in. It is a good idea to have a thesis proposal drafted before you discuss with your proposed supervisor.

If you cannot find a supervisor, it would be best for you to contact the convener of the Master program. They may be able to direct you to a suitable academic who has similar research interests as you.

Once you have found an academic who gives you in principle agreement to supervise you, you will need to complete a Thesis supervisor confirmation form.

To complete the form, you will need to have:

  • met the requirements for entry into the program
  • a thesis proposal
  • found a supervisor who is willing and able to supervise you for the entire period of your program

Please submit your form with your application, signed by yourself and your proposed supervisor. The CASS Student Office will then seek the remaining approvals.

The time at which you submit the form will depend on the admission requirements for your nominated Master (Advanced) program. Please check the dates carefully, and send the Thesis supervisor confirmation form to the CASS Student Office at the relevant point in time.
