The CASS Student Office is here to help you manage the administrative elements of your MPhil or PhD candidature. We work in collaboration with your local area and the Graduate Research Office to make your experience as straightforward as possible.

As an HDR candidate, your program follows the Research Awards Rule 2021, as well as several policies and procedures. These include information about research integrity, the duration of your program, and supervision. If you ever have any questions about these policies, procedures, and the Research Awards Rule, please reach out to us at research.students.cass@anu.edu.au.

There are several administrative elements involved in a Higher Degree by Research (HDR) program. These include completing your milestones, engaging in coursework, updating your supervisory panel when you add or change panel members, and submitting the appropriate forms if you need to apply for leave or an extension. These elements are explained throughout the Higher Degree Research candidates website and the CASS Student Office website. Throughout your candidature, if you have any administrative questions you can reach out to us at research.students.cass@anu.edu.au.

HDR checklist

If you are a new HDR student, the Higher degree by research students (HDR) checklist is a very handy introduction to the early stages of your candidature.

Updating your supervisory panel

One of the defining elements of an HDR program is that you work closely with a supervisor to produce your thesis. It’s important to keep an up-to-date record of your supervision arrangements, and to follow the appropriate HDR supervision policies. If you wish to update your supervisory panel, please fill in the HDR Supervisor Panel Details form at the file attachment link below. Once you have filled in your part of this form, please send it to your local area administration team and research.students.cass@anu.edu.au.
