The cultural contributions made through arts and design are essential for a vigorous and forward-thinking Australian society. These fields enable individuals to express their views on the world in engaging ways. Art & Design at ANU encompasses art theory; Asian art history; ceramics; curatorial studies; digital arts; design arts; drawing; glass; painting; photography and media arts; print media; sculpture and spatial practice; and textiles. Students can study the physical crafting of artistic outputs from a technical as well as theoretical perspective, to gain deeper insights into contemporary practice.

Design has a vital role in shaping a fast-moving world: it’s about applied creativity, engagement and collaboration, as well as the art and craft of making. Our visual arts are creating opportunities to develop specialised skills and interdisciplinary practices. Studies in art history and curatorship bridge the gap between art history as an academic discipline and the practicalities of curating collections and exhibitions.
