Applying for credit title
Coursework students
Students who have undertaken previous study that is relevant to their current academic program can request to receive course credit based on their prior learning. University rules, policy and procedure relating to the granting credit is set out in the
- Coursework Awards Rule;
- Policy: Recognition of prior and external learning; and
- Procedure: Credit and exemptions
Internal credit transfer
If you have transferred programs, generally speaking there is no need to apply for internal credit transfer. You will receive the following advice with your notification that your application for program transfer has been successful:
If you would like to transfer your credit, please send us a study plan showing how you’d like your credits applied. We will review your study plan and apply the credit to your new program
If you did not receive this email or did not reply and want to transfer course credit towards your new degree, you will need to send an email to students.cass@anu.edu.au with a completed study plan
External credit transfer
If you have studied elsewhere before you started your degree at ANU and wish to apply for credit from your previous study you may apply for an External Credit Transfer.
Before starting your application, the External Credit Transfer Form has step by step instructions so that you have a clear understanding of the credit process and what supporting documentation is required in order to apply. You will be asked for Course Outlines for each course from the other institution, and will need to upload a copy of your Academic Transcript.
HDR course credit and/or exemptions
PhD and MPhil students may apply for credit and exemptions for specific ANU courses approved for your program. The request for coursework exemption must include documentary evidence (e.g. official transcripts, course outlines) and a case supported by the Chair of Panel and HDR Convenor. Exemptions are subject to the CASS Associate Dean HDR’s approval. To begin an application, please email the CASS Student Office on research.students.cass@anu.edu.au
