Environment Studio: field based research & studio practice in visual arts title

This course provides outstanding field-based visual art engagement opportunities with environments in and around the Canberra region. It offers supervised camping-based field trips that provide primary research opportunities to inform the production of artwork, both on-site and in the studio. Representatives and artists from local First Nation communities and organisations contribute to this course to enhance student understanding of cultural relationships with Country and the ongoing impacts of colonisation.

Winning entry of Australia's richest furniture design prize is The Dream title

The Head of the Furniture Workshop at the ANU School of Art & Design has been named winner of Australia’s richest furniture design prize.

Ashley Eriksmoen scooped $20,000 in cash and a two-week residency program at JamFactory after winning the 2022 Australian Furniture Design Award, presented by the National Gallery of Victoria and Stylecraft.

ANU PhD candidate inaugural winner of French-Australian art prize title

A PhD candidate in the ANU School of Art & Design has been named Grand Champion of a newly established art prize, earning a flight to Paris amongst other winnings.

Golden moment for ANU jewellery artist title

When Ghanaian-Australian hip-hop star Genesis Owusu swept the recent Aria awards, he wasn't the only one with reason to celebrate, it was also a big night for Canberra jewellery maker Jonathon Zalakos.  

Zalakos, a student at the ANU School of Art & Design, is the artist behind Owusu's iconic gold grill for his teeth. 

Owusu wore the grill while showing off his four Aria awards. It also features prominently on the cover of album of the year, Smiling with No Teeth.  

ANU furniture designer wins $20,000 prize for boundary-pushing work title

A leading furniture maker and senior lecturer in the ANU School of Art & Design has won Tasmania’s richest prize for excellence in furniture design.

Ms Ashley Eriksmoen was named the winner of the biennial Clarence Prize for her piece Following years of steady decline, we are witnessing a period of unprecedented growth. She has been awarded $20,000, with her winning work acquired for the Clarence Art Collection.
