Sharing Stories Arts Exchange 2025

Public Information Session

The Sharing Stories Arts Exchange (SSAE) is a creative participatory project focused on building positive reciprocal relationships between the Canberra community and local regional Indigenous and non-indigenous communities.  

For the first time in 2025, Sharing Stories will run two Programs, to both Walgalu Country in the Tumut region or NSW and on Yuin Country on the Far South Coast of NSW. 

Join us for the final presentation and public dyeing event of the Living City: People, Plants, and Place 2024 program, presented by Dr. Rebecca Mayo. Experience the Plant Sensibilia Machine, a large-scale, hand-operated dyeing device that brings the creative process from the studio to the public realm.

Our technical staff are makers, artists and creatives. They are the quiet workforce behind our creative studios - who share their knowledge, ensure integrity of process and provide fundamental support for artistic exploration and research.

The ANU School of Art & Design Drawing Prize showcases and celebrates the breadth and depth of drawing practice within the ANU School of Art & Design. The Prize is an annual event open to all current students enrolled in one or more courses in Semester 2 at the ANU School of Art & Design.

The Winner is awarded a cash prize of $1,500. 

This Prize was originally established and is supported by Jan Brown, former long serving member of staff and Head of Foundation at the ANU School of Art and an important Australian artist.

The grain of trees evident in both woodblocks and prints are an under-acknowledged record of aesthetic co-production between human artists and more-than-human beings. Whilst there is literature centred on the relief woodcut print and the resulting visual communication, there is a significant gap in the consideration of the woodblock. Usually seen as a matrix for the dissemination of written language and imagery as prints, there has been little exploration of the woodblock as a vehicle to communicate the presence of our relationship with more-than-human counterparts.
