Graduate Studies Select

NOTE: ANU is not currently accepting applications into the Master of Studies and Master of Studies (Advanced). Students who had received and accepted offers for admission will be able to commence in 2019.

What is Graduate Studies Select?

Graduate Studies Select (GSS) is a university-wide suite of programs designed to offer a flexible option for graduate studies at ANU. We recognise that graduate students have a range of learning interests that are not always met by a defined program of study in a single academic discipline. By increasing the flexibility and choice available, you can now structure a more individualised program of studies, directing your learning to meet academic, personal and professional interests or to develop skills and expertise in specialised areas.

There are thousands of ANU graduate courses to choose from and a Student Advisor and Sub-Dean are available to help you tailor a program to suit your individual needs and guide you throughout your studies at ANU. You could choose to study any 6000-, 7000- or 8000-level postgraduate course across the university so long as you meet any course entry requirements, such as any pre-requisites, and meet the program requirements concerning different classification levels. You can choose courses for an eclectic mix of interests, or focus your learning in a particular discipline for progression into research. For example, you could construct a program of study in anthropology, environment and international relations; combine courses in languages, management, and museums and collections; or extend your knowledge of different subjects in science and engineering.

What GSS degrees are available?

The Graduate Certificate of Studies is available for admission. There are two exit qualifications, the Graduate Diploma of Studies and Master of Studies, which can be used as exit points from other Postgraduate degrees. The Master of Studies (Advanced) is availalbe for transfer from the Master of Studies.

Can I choose how I study?

Different modes of study are also available: on-campus semester long courses requiring weekly attendance; on-campus intensive courses held over a few days or evenings; or online studies (NB: course choices are restricted).
