Professional development

Professional development

All new sessional academic staff and new tutors are strongly encouraged, and will be paid to attend, Professional Development workshops run by the College and by the Centre for Higher Education, Learning and Teaching (CHELT).

The CHELT modules focus on reflective teaching. These are augmented by the CASS-delivered modules that focus on the nuts-and-bolts of teaching in the arts, humanities, and social sciences.

Centre for Higher Education, Learning and Teaching

The Centre for Higher Education, Learning and Teaching (CHELT) provides an option for some tutors - Foundations of University Teaching & Learning is an intensive professional development course offered by the Staff Education unit within CHELT and is open to all ANU teaching staff including sessional lecturers and tutors.

Foundations comprises ten modules of intensive professional development activities designed to inform, engage and inspire those involved in teaching and learning at ANU. You do not need to complete all ten modules, but to gain a certificate of completion you need to attend all ten modules and make at least seven contributions online.
