Gilbert Riedelbauch joined the School of Art in 1994 as a designer/maker with a background in silversmithing. He has led the Foundation Studies program since 2008 and convenes the Graduate Coursework program for Visual Arts and Digital Arts. From 2008 to 2015 he coordinated the School’s Design Arts program. 

Riedelbauch's work in Foundation Studies has received multiple awards. In 2017 he received an Award for Programs that Enhance Learning in the Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Education. In 2016 he received a Distinguished Teaching Award from the Australian Council of Art & Design Schools and a CASS teaching award. In 2014 he become a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK, and in 2007 he received a Carrick Citation - a national teaching award for his contribution to university teaching.

Gilbert Riedelbauch maintains a professional practice in Canberra exhibiting nationally and internationally. His works are included in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, Museum of Applied Arts & Sciences, Sydney and Canberra Museum and Gallery. He holds qualifications from the Academy of Fine Art in Nuernberg and the Australian National University and is currently a PhD candidate at the ANU School of Art & Design.
