A finale event for Women’s History Month, The Great Debate 2014 was held at the Albert Hall, Canberra on 26 March. Before a crowded auditorium, a distinguished line up of debaters addressed the proposition that ‘Australia doesn’t need Women’s History Month’.

Debaters for the affirmative were Professor Angela Woollacott, Dawn Casey, and Professor Marilyn Lake. Arguing for the negative were Alix Biggs, Professor Marnie Hughes-Warrington and Dr Anne Summers.

The Australian Women’s History Forum (AWHF) aims to enhance understanding of the role of women in the history of Australia. The AWHF website provides resources for teachers, students and others keen to know more about women’s history. A key activity of AWHF is the celebration each March of Women’s History Month.
