Music Education Program a hit with Korean children

Staff from the School of Music's Music Education Program entertained a group of young Korean school children last Thursday.

The Korean's were mostly 10 years old and were visiting the ANU as part of a 6 week trip in Australia.  The trip was organised by BADA - an international agency which is often involved in International Student recruitment.

The children were treated to a lesson and sing-a-long that included favourite Australian tunes such as "Aeroplane Jelly" and "The Road to Gundagai".  All the students and their travelling party were thouroughly entertained by the songs and the games they played.  The students were also priviledged to sing on the stage at Llewllyn Hall.

This experience was a fantastic example of the Music Education Program.  

The philosophy of the program is based on Dr Susan West’s considerable experience and research in music education, general education and music for well being through both traditional and alternative pathways. Its foundation is in the school system but its application now extends well beyond this realm.

Through its teacher programs, outreach concerts, shared goals, shared repertoire, school-to-school and school-to-community activities, the MEP encourages music-making as a part of the normal social and cultural lives of all participants, regardless of age or skill level.
