On a mission to give young people a voice

A second year International Relations student at ANU is on a mission to better engage our politicians over the needs of younger Australians in cities and rural communities.
Jordan Kerr, founder of Youth Link Australia, organised last week's National Youth Conference which was held on campus, with a view to launching the National Youth Council.
"The National Youth Council will look at hosting programs that will focus on leadership development in rural and remote communities, but it will also be an advisory body for government and business to come to a group of young people and say 'what perspectives do young people have on this'," Kerr said.
"I think that's one thing we need to work on - bringing people together and having them stand up for what they believe in. So engaging people in the decisions that are going to affect our future."
As for his career prospects after his studies, Kerr says a future in International Relations is "definitely on the cards", once he completes his honours year.
"Being able to engage in that government and policy field and standing up for what I believe in and what I think is right and just is something I am really looking at getting involved with, after my studies here at ANU."
