Congratulations to CASS graduates

In December, 417 students from the College of Arts and Social Sciences had their degrees conferred.

The College’s undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral candidates received their awards in two ceremonies held in Llewellyn Hall.

This was an exceptional year for CASS, with five students being awarded a University Medal, including a dual University Medallist, Nicolas Lema Habash. Nicolas is only the eighteenth student to achieve this since ANU first introduced the University Medals in 1963. This year he won the University Medal for Philosophy, after winning a University Medal for Ancient Greek in 2012.

Other students who won University Medals are:

  • Catherine Baxendale - Art History (PhB)
  • Harriet Mercer - History (PhB)
  • Noor Kennedy - Political Science (PhB)
  • Chris Sutevski - Visual Arts (Hons)

Bachelor of Arts/Laws student Brody Warren also received the Tillyard Prize this year, which recognises students whose personal qualities and contribution to university life have been outstanding. It is one of the most prestigious prizes awarded to undergraduate students.

The College held a celebratory lunch to mark the occasion, hosted by the College Dean Professor Toni Makkai.

Across ANU, more than 2200 students had awards conferred in graduation ceremonies throughout the week. Another 958 students had awards conferred in absentia.
