Canberra in my eyes - exhibition

A photography exhibition of what Canberra means to students from The Australian National University opens today and will run until 16 May in the Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre, 180 London Circuit, Civic.

The University asked students to portray how Canberra makes them feel. In My Eyes is the response from 25 international and domestic students from across the disciplines of science, visual art, social sciences, Asian and Pacific studies – and even business.

The purpose of the project was to create an opportunity for international students and domestic students at ANU to come together in celebrating Canberra.

Twenty-year-old second-year law and actuarial studies student Ruo Yan did a 360-degree panoramic photograph of Canberra from Black Mountain Tower.

“It’s a transition of Canberra as it blends from day to night. I stayed there the whole afternoon and night. It was pretty cold and I was pretty stupid to wear board shorts,” Ms Yan said, laughing.

“The first time that I fell in love with Canberra was when I went up to Black Mountain Tower and saw the city from afar, with an outsider’s perspective. I’m from Sydney and when I first came here by myself to study I felt I should still be in Sydney. But now I feel a sense of belonging. Canberra’s my home now.”
