Artist to pursue ceramics dream in US

Gabrielle Wallington, ceramics student at the ANU School of Art, left for the United States in August after winning the Australian-American Association Canberra Scholarship.
The Australian-American Association Canberra Scholarship provides a grant of up to $6,000 and a return airfare to Los Angeles to support a young Canberran to travel to the United States. It can be to support study, research, or a project that will benefit their career or personal development.
Gabrielle will travel to Ashville, North Carolina, to work with American wood-firer Josh Copus for a year.
She said she was grateful for the opportunity and is looking forward to learning new skills and techniques in ceramics.
“I have been so lucky to be presented with this opportunity and I’m going to work very hard over the next year. It's going to be a new experience and I will be learning new methods of making, firing and glazing,” she says.
Gabrielle was featured on the cover of Canberra Weekly (pictured) and the Sydney Morning Herald for her work last month.
