APSA Congressional Fellowship 2011
Applications for the American Australian Association APSA Congressional Fellowship in 2011 have opened. This excellent award was founded in 1953 and is the nation's oldest and most prestigious congressional fellowship.
For nine months, a select political scientist, journalist, federal executive or an international scholar will gain hands on understanding of the legislative process by serving on congressional staffs.
The program starts each year in November with a three week intensive orientation on the legislative process and current congressional affairs. Fellows begin their office assignments on Capitol Hill in December. Enrichment opportunities are offered throughout the program to deepen the learning experience.
The Fellow will receive a monthly stipend of $3,800 for ten months, $2,150 for program-related international travel, $160 for books, and additional travel expenses for the visit to the Canadian Parliament and one trip to the district office of their respective Congress member.
Criteria
Applicants must be Australian citizens, possess exceptional writing and speaking skills, and have a minimum of three years professional work experience. Potential candidates include political journalists, early-to-mid-career academics, and experts from the fields of foreign policy, economics, migration, environment, science, and social issues.
