ANIP - A Powerful Move

The Australian National Internships Program (ANIP) is an exciting opportunity for ANU students of any discipline to gain internship placements with leading public sector organisations such as the Australian Federal Parliament, the Australian Public Service, the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly or within the Australian Public Service, or with a variety of non-government organisations.

For many students the most exciting placement opportunities are in Parliament House including working in the offices of Senators (upper house) or Members (lower house) of Parliament or be attached to a Parliamentary Committee or Department.  With the broad-ranging interests of Members of Parliament, opportunities arise for research projects covering all areas of public policy, from global politics, defence and development issues to social and environmental policy and issues of governance.

There are also opportunities to work with Members of the Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly where Interns have worked on a wide range of projects covering multicultural, heritage, education, health, art curatorship, social and environmental issues.

ANIP also provides the opportunity for Interns to be placed with the Public Service where interns have worked on international environmental and trade issues for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, insolvency and bankruptcy law for the Treasury, environmental impacts of genetically modified crops for the Department of the Environment and Heritage, defence and strategic policy for the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, and the impact of arts funding for Arts ACT.

ANIP Interns have also worked with a variety of Non-Government Organisations including in foreign aid and development, environmental issues, industry and trade policy development.
