Academic staff are invited to submit an application for promotion in the 2016 round, which opens on 1 June 2016.
Academic promotion underpins the University's goal to recognise academic staff achievements in research/creative activity, education, service and leadership.
Professor Christian Barry received a promotion under the 2015 round, which saw him promoted from level D to level E1 Professor.
"It was something that made me feel really positive about my future at the ANU," said Professor Barry, who is the Head of the School of Philosophy.
"It made me feel very valued and it also gave me an increased sense of responsibility, not just to keep up my own work but to continue to work hard to promote the flourishing of my school."
Applications for promotion are assessed by a promotion committee, where outcomes are based on the holistic recognition of the quality, productivity and impact on staff achievements, as demonstrated through the application, referee reports and when required, interviews with the applicant.
"If I hadn't been successful I would have been frustrated, so you really want to make sure that you are already working at the level that you are trying to apply for," Professor Barry said - advice which he had also received from a colleague before he applied for his own promotion.
Barry said being elevated to a level E Professor was significant for him, for his career and his own standing as an academic at ANU.
"In Australia the rank of Professor is not something that you are simply assumed to reach at one point in your career. Granting a Professorship is taken quite seriously at University. So I think it has made quite a significant difference and I think it is recognised as a significant change of status in the profession."
The 2016 round for applications for promotion to levels B to E1 opens on 1 June 2016 and closes on 31 July 2016. Applications for promotion to level E2 and E3 can be submitted throughout the year.
As there have been a number of changes made to the academic promotion procedure, staff are encouraged to ensure they are familiar with the 2016 requirements when preparing their application for promotion.
The changes were outlined in the information sessions held in April; recordings of these sessions, key dates and information on the promotion process are available on the Academic Promotions website.
