I chose my program because I am very interested in sociolinguistics. My course allows me to study Linguistics in depth while also carrying out a research component.

The best thing about my program is that it doesn't just involve coursework.  I initially had a look at the research interests of different lecturers in this program to see if this coincided with my interests.  This is really important to do because in the second year of the program you need to write a thesis.  It is imperative that you have some general ideas about what you are interested in and what you are going to do with your thesis at the very beginning. 

I found this was a massive help as it focused my studies and kept me motivated to complete all the different components. 

I really like the individualised style of the thesis component and the fact I have a really supportive and experienced superviser.
