Why read tragedy today?

Presented by the ANU School of Literature, Languages and Linguistics in the College of Arts and Social Sciences. In association with the National Library of Australia. Tragedy delivers bad news—it tells us, for one thing, that we are not in control of our own lives. So, why bother with it? Peter Holbrook, Professor of Shakespeare and English Renaissance Literature at the University of Queensland, will address this question in the context of the tragic drama written in the time of Shakespeare. This is a free event and all are welcome. Bookings: nla.gov.au/bookings or 02 6262 1271 (Mon–Fri, 9 am–12 pm)
