CASS OzHarvest Food Drive

The CASS Green Impact team are hosting a food drive for  OzHarvest, in conjunction with Dr Trang Ta’s Food for Thought course community cookbook launch.

If you have had a bit of a spring clean in your kitchen cupboards recently, CASS Greenies will be collecting donations to help feed Canberra’s hungry with OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation.

Specifically, OzHarvest would love:

·         Non-perishable food like pasta, rice, canned fruits, vegetables and tuna, tinner or jarred sauces and casseroles, biscuits, tea and coffee, cereals, muesli bars

·         Ring pull cans are preferred over can-opener style packaging

·         Any kind of protein is extremely welcome, but not too many lentils please!

·         No products that contain any kind of alcohol, including wine, wine vinegars, or traditional Christmas style puddings. No trace amounts to be mentioned on the label.

·         Please ensure the food is within it’s due date.

Volunteers will be on hand from 11am – 1pm during the launch of the cookbook to collect these items for donations, and will also be lending a hand with a kitchenware swap for those who may need kitchenware items, or are happy to donate to ANU students who live on campus.

The Food for Thought community cookbook launch will be taking place at the same time. This cookbook will be a collection of critical essays by the students reflecting on the theoretical readings in the course, with an accompanying original recipe inspired by their critique of the modern industrial food system. Along with creating and designing the cookbook, Dr Ta has also been working with Thrive to collaborate on practical workshops such as growing microgreens and gardening in the course.

We hope to see you all there!
