2022 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition College Final

An 80,000 word PhD thesis would take 9 hours to read, they have 3 minutes to present.

The ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences PhD students present an elevator pitch of their topic in under three minutes for the 2022 Competition and compete for the three spots (2 winners + 1 People’s choice) remaining in the ANU 3MT final and possibly onto the Australian national final or even to the Asia Pacific final!

Please join us for an afternoon of smart entertainment and catch a glimpse of the amazing research projects on various subjects and disciplines that are being conducted at ANU by our PhD students. Two of the presentations will be voted by a panel of experts to be the winners and you also have the chance to vote for your favourite presenter in the People's Choice award.

Awards for presenters:

  • $1,000 (AUD) for the two winners of the CASS 3MT Competition.
  • $100 (AUD) for the People’s Choice awardee.

For more information, visit the ANU 3MT webpage or the national 3MT site (UQ).

What is Three Minute Thesis (3MT)?

The 3MT is an international competition for research students to showcase their research. Students have to talk about what their research is and why it is important in plain language for three minutes, with only a single PowerPoint slide.

This event is free and open to the public. If you cannot make it in person, you will have an option to watch the live stream on that day using Zoom. However we encourage an in-person audience to support our candidates!
