PhD (2013) – Political Science and International Relations
Originally from Malaysia, Dr Raihan Ismail completed her undergraduate and Masters degrees in international relations at the International Islamic University, Malaysia. She started her PhD at ANU in 2009, based at the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies.
Raihan graduated from ANU in 2013 and joined the Centre as an Associate Lecturer in 2014, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on sectarianism and political Islam in the Middle East. Since her appointment, Raihan has also secured a contract with Oxford University Press to publish her PhD thesis as a book. She is involved in seminars on Middle East politics with Australian government departments including Foreign Affairs, Defence and Attorney- General’s.
Raihan is a regular commentator in the Australian media, speaking about the Middle East and Islam in Australia.
