Hugo
I am currently on exchange at the University of Illinois, and every day brings something new and exciting.
I'm studying a Bachelor of Music/Bachelor of Science - majoring in saxophone performance and physics.
I have always been particularly passionate about music and physics- balancing creative pursuits with the desire to find out more about the universe. I wanted to pursue both these areas at university, and the Flexible Double Degree program at ANU allowed this to become a reality.
Within both fields of study there have always been very knowledgeable and passionate educators who have had my personal interests in mind and allowed me to push myself to realise my full potential.
Studying music with some of the nation’s best educators has been extremely inspiring and has greatly broadened my creative horizons. In addition to this, being able to perform on such a regular basis with fellow students has been extremely enjoyable and beneficial for my learning.
I feel that music over the ages has been strongly influenced by the ever-evolving technological advances. The physics courses I have taken here have given me a much greater understanding of “how stuff works”, and in many cases how it relates to sound.
Pursuing these contrasting skill sets constantly keeps me on my toes and fusing them is leading to many exciting new projects and career opportunities.
I’ve been fortunate enough have had the opportunity to work on 3 albums whilst at ANU which would not have been possible without the available facilities and dedication of both staff and students.
I am currently on exchange at the University of Illinois, and every day brings something new and exciting. I’ve always loved travelling, so having the opportunity to incorporate this into my study is a big bonus!
In my spare time I enjoy hanging out with friends and running in the mountains.
