School of Music scholarship student shares her experience

“If there was no scholarship, there would have been no ANU for me.”

When I knew I wanted to play the Cello, I looked online for a mentor who would suit me. I fell in love with the playing style of David Pereira, a lecturer all the way across the ocean, at ANU. Today, I’m happy to call him my teacher.

Coming from Malaysia, the currency change and cost of living would have been too much for my family. Instead, I’m able to come here, live in good accommodation, meet diverse people from all over the world and learn new things from them, and have balance.

Without a scholarship, I would have to spend all my free time working to support myself. I’m happy that I have that time to practice instead. It gives me the flexibility to pursue other opportunities, like play with my peers as part of the ANU Chamber Orchestra.
