Philip Pettit awarded Spitz Prize

Professor Philip Pettit has been awarded the David and Elaine Spitz Prize for his 2012 book On the People’s Terms: A Republican Theory and Model of Democracy

The Spitz prize is awarded by The International Conference for the Study of Political Thought for the best book in liberal and/or democratic theory published two years earlier.

He has also received an honorary doctorate from the University of Athens this week.

Professor Pettit is a Distinguished Professor of Philosophy within the Research School of Social Sciences and L.S. Rockefeller University Professor of Politics and Human Values at Princeton.

In other news from the School of Philosophy, Dr Lea Ypi’s article “What’s Wrong with Colonialism,” was selected for the Philosopher's Annual as one of the 10 best papers in philosophy published in 2013. 

Lea Ypi is Lecturer in Political Theory in the Government Department, London School of Economics, and Adjunct Professor in Philosophy at the Research School of Social Sciences, Australian National University.
