New rankings show ANU in the world’s top universities

ANU has moved up three places to rank 45 in the latest Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2014-15.

The results show the ANU was particularly strong in the teaching and research reputation criteria, and follow the recent QS Top Universities rankings which ranked ANU 25 in the world.

The rankings show that disciplines in the College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) remain strong, with humanities and the arts ranked first in Australia and 16 in the world.

Social sciences ranked 2 in Australia and 24 worldwide, moving up two spots from 26 last year.

ANU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ian Young AO, said the results were a reflection of the quality and commitment of the University’s staff and students.

“The ANU takes pride in its international reputation for research and education, so it’s pleasing to receive this recognition on the world stage,” he said.

Professor Young said it was particularly encouraging to have the quality of ANU teaching and reputation for research highlighted by the rankings results.

“While rankings can be an imperfect science, it is satisfying to see the hard work of our staff and students recognised through the University’s global standing,” he said.

“With so many outstanding people working at the ANU, a day rarely goes by without a new discovery or advancement in thinking that helps make the world a better place," he said.
