Languages and linguistics on show in Canberra

Over 600 linguists from across the country and overseas will meet in Canberra as part of Canberra Langfest 2011. From 27 November to 9 December a series of events and conferences will be held at ANU and the University of Canberra about language, languages and their relationship with the world.
As a key sponsor of Canberra Langfest, linguists from the ANU School of Language Studies will host and participate in a number of the activities. Dr Helen Moore is the main coordinator of Canberra Langfest, including the signature Language and Law Day co-hosted by the ANU College of Law.
Professor Jane Simpson will co-convene the Australian Linguistics Society conference with Professor Nicholas Evans along with Associate Professor Cynthia Allen, Dr Avery Andrews, Dr Harold Koch and other ANU staff. Dr Louise Jansen and Adjunct Professor Helen Moore are convening events hosted by the Applied Linguistics Association of Australia.
Dr Chantal Crozet and Dr Peter Brown convened the Australian Society for French Studies conference, which had a theme this year of ‘French Connections: Traduction, Didactique et Analyse du Discours'. The Australian National Dictionary Centre will also host the Australian Association for Lexicography annual conference
Head of the School of Language Studies, Professor Jane Simpson, said that Canberra Langfest is a wonderful opportunity for students, staff and colleagues from around the world to spend time doing what they love - discussing and thinking about language, languages and the intellectual and social challenges they present.
