Exhibition showcases Australia's top design talent

The work of some of Australia’s top designers, including ANU staff and alumni, is on display at a new exhibition at the ANU School of Art.

The exhibition, de sign ed 2, brings together 19 exhibitors from the Design Arts degree programs. The works of the 19 artists include pieces from the disciplines practiced at the School of Art - ceramics, furniture design, glass, gold and silversmithing, sculpture and textile design.

Of the 19 exhibitors in de sign ed 2, four are shortlisted for this year’s Interior Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) – Jon Goulder, shortlisted as Designer of the Year, and Cinnamon Lee, Henry Wilson and Elliot Bastianon, shortlisted in the Object – Furniture and Lighting category. Additionally, artists Megan Jackson and Sean Booth are winners of the Canberra 100 Design competition and three artists are winners of the prestigious Bombay Sapphire Design Awards – Jon Goulder, Henry Wilson and Henry Pilcher.

“The School of Art launched this degree as an avenue for students with a strong interest in establishing a sustainable and creative career in their chosen discipline,” said Gilbert Riedelbauch, Design Arts co-ordinator and one of the artists on display.

“The students who do the degree seek to acquire specialised skills in their major discipline together with a higher level of information literacy and the application of current digital technologies and fabrication processes.

“The diversity of this model of practice is reflected in the range of objects presented in de sign ed 2. The works selected are from graduates and staff, many of who are leaders in their field.”
