Drawing together leading social scientists on Indigenous disadvantage

The conference, which is co-sponsored by the Australian National University (ANU), The Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) and Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) aims to encourage conversations between stakeholders and academics about data and the research required to enhance the Social Science evidence base around Indigenous well being and socioeconomic disadvantage (with a particular focus on the ‘Closing the Gap’ targets).

The conference draws together leading Australian social scientists on indigenous issues including: Jon Altman, Martin Bell, Nick Biddle, Tanya Chikritzhs, Mike Dockery, Ann Evans, Bob Gregory, Boyd Hunter, Kim Johnstone, Sybille McKeown, Paul Memmott, Lisa Jackson Pulver, Carrington Sheppard, John Taylor, Prem Thapa, Don Weatherburn, Peter Yu, and Steve Zubrick.

The conference organisers are pleased to have an unprecedented number of international experts on indigenous disadvantage from around the globe. Tahu Kukutai (Te Whare Wónanga o Waikato), Harry Patrinos (Lead Education Economist, The World Bank) , Matthew Snipp (Burnet C. and Mildred Finley Wohlford Professor Stanford University).

Discussion for the papers will be drawn from prominent contributors to the conference.
