Ceramic ngintaka returns to ANU

The College of Arts and Social Sciences added a one metre-long ceramic ngingtaka to its art collection this month.

The ngintaka, or giant perentie lizard, now sits on display in the CASS Student Lounge in the Beryl Rawson Building.

The lizard is one of three ceramic ngintaka made in the Ceramics Workshop at the ANU School of Art last year. They were a collaborative work between Ngunytjima Carroll, Derek Thompson and Tjutjuna Paul Andy from Ernabella, South Australia, and Michael Keighery, Janet De Boos and Greg Daly from ANU.

The works were commissioned by Ananguku Arts for the Ngintaka Songlines Exhibition which was held at the South Australian Museum earlier this year.

The exhibition was co-curated by Anangu artists from the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands and researchers from the ARC funded project Songlines of the Western Desert.

The artwork has been accepted into the ANU Indigenous Art Collection.
