CASS alumnus awarded 2018 John Monash Scholarship

ANU Bachelor of Philosophy (Honours) graduate Louis Klee has been awarded a prestigious John Monash Scholarship to further his studies overseas.
Louis said he was humbled to have been selected to study a PhD in Literature at the University of Cambridge.
"The arts and humanities are essential because they teach imagination, empathy, and critical thinking; because they allow us to see how the world could be, not just how it is," he said.
"My aim is to find ways in which to strengthen the role of the art and humanities in our society," he said.
Louis one was one of three ANU graduates to win a 2018 John Monash Scholarship. The scholarships are awarded to outstanding Australians with a proven capacity for leadership and a vision for the betterment of Australian society.
The other two awardees, Sonia Loudon and William Witheridge will travel to Harvard and Princeton Universities respectively to further their studies.
Sonia, who holds a Bachelor of Laws with Honours and a Bachelor of Science from ANU, said her goal is to reverse the widening inequality and segregation in the Australian school system.
She will complete a Master of Education Policy and Management at Harvard University.
William holds a Bachelor of Economics with First Class Honours, a Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Economics from ANU. He is passionate about improving Australian economic policy particularly through tax reform. William will undertake a PhD in Economics at Princeton University.
