The Bachelor of International Relations at ANU will provide you with an understanding of the complexities that have helped shape the modern world of states and international society. You will examine historical and current issues through the lens of theory and practice of global politics, international political economy, international security, and aid and development.

In this program, you will also have the opportunity to study across the full range of the discipline to further your understanding of international affairs. As well as studying theories and concepts of international relations more broadly, you will build greater knowledge on the foreign policy of at least one world region, develop research skills applicable across the social sciences.

International Relations at ANU

Bachelor of International Relations students learn to:

• Identify the principal theoretical approaches to the study of international relations
• Understand the historical development of the global system
• Demonstrate an understanding of the principal actors in contemporary global politics and the challenges they face
• Your program of study also leaves space to focus on a sub-discipline such as political economy, theory, security, a language, or research methodology.

Flexible Double Degree

Study overseas

ANU is recognised for its leadership in the field of international relations. ANU has many connections with the Australian Federal Government and a range of non-government organisations. Canberra is home to Australia’s diplomatic community and members of embassies regularly visit ANU for lectures. Parliament House is also a short distance from the University, where international relations students can witness politics first hand.
