Please note:

  • Students are required to follow the rules of their program/programs according to the year that they started. Students who change their degree through a program transfer should follow the rules of the program/programs according to the year they started the new program/programs. However, students now have an option that if they start a program and then transfer to a new program they may elect to follow the rules of the program according to the original year they started. If students choose this option, they must send an email to students.cass@anu.edu.au to advise the Student Office to note this on the transcript. When you fill in your plan, please state which year's rules you are following on the top of the plan.
Example:A student starts a BA in 2014. If they were to stay in the BA, they must follow the 2014 rules (including which majors and minors they can choose). If they were to program transfer to a BA/BPPE in 2016, they would have to follow the 2016 rules for the BPPE. However, they may choose to follow the 2014 rules for the BA instead of the 2016 if they prefer.
  • If a student is undertaking a degree and new courses are added to the major, minor, specialisations or program lists in years consequent to the year's rules they are following, these courses can count retrospectively.
  • Students are expected to complete their degree according to the rules that were in place at the time they enrolled. So, a student who enrolled in a Bachelor of Arts in 2018 is expected to complete the 2018 version of the program, even if the program has evolved. Students are allowed to count courses that have been more recently added to Majors, Minors, and Specialisations. That is, a student who enrolled in 2018 and intends to complete a Major in Political Science may be allowed to count a course that was added to that Major in 2019. They will not be allowed to count Majors, Minors, and Specialisations that were not named in the version of the degree in which they are enrolled.
