Dr Elisabeth Yarbakhsh obtained her PhD at the Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies in 2017, with her thesis 'Placing hospitality: Iranian citizens and Afghan refugees in the city of Shiraz'. Her research interests include migration, refugee rights, Iranian politics and society, the anthropology of Middle Eastern societies, and the Afghan diaspora. She has published widely on these topics and others and has a growing publication profile covering research and creative writing. Dr Yarbakhsh has taught at undergraduate and graduate levels at the ANU, in courses including Introduction to the Modern Middle East; Islam in World Politics; and Islam, the West and International Terrorism.
