Maruku at ANU

Maruku Arts is an anangu (Aboriginal) owned and run business which gathers art from the Ngaanyattjara Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara lands. Based in Mutitjulu, at Uluru the not-for-profit organisation has been running since 1984, and supports over 800 artists and families. Maruku artists are famous for their intricate and vibrant painting, punu (wood carving and walka (design on punu or flat boards).

The relationship between Maruku and the ANU has developed from the John XXIII College Community Outreach Project, which sees students visit Mutitjulu each year and engage in cultural exchange.

As part of Maruku@ANU, artists from Mutitjulu will be visiting the university, assisting in the launch of the exhibition, marketplace, and hosting workshops in dot painting and punu​ from the 4-5 March.
