The Art of Anthropology

The Art of Anthropology is a photo exhibition showcasing the work of 29 ANU anthropologists. The photographs tell stories about a changing world, and moments caught at the crossroads of influences, ages, and cultures. The stories they tell are about the ways in which people shape the world around themselves, and how they are shaped by it, be it through religious, artistic, political or ethnographic practice. The images look into private and public space; ritual and performance; gender and representation; new technologies and old traditions; the relationship of global and local forces; commerce and art-making and the very act of doing ethnography and taking pictures.
