What
is ISIS?
ISIS is the
university’s student administration system. On ISIS you
can:
- access
your personal and academic information
- change
your personal details
- get your
results
- change
your enrolment
- re-enrol
for the next semester
How
do I use it?
Find a computer.
Go to https://anubis.anu.edu.au/login.asp. Login with upir uni
ID (U + student number) and password. **It's a good idea to change
the password to something easy to remember.**
How
do I find out what courses I can take?
Study@ANU
has everything you need to know about courses being offered, the
structure of your degree, majors, prerequisities, etc. A list
of all Arts first year courses is in this book and full course
information is available on Study@ANU.
If
I want to change my mind about the courses I’ve chosen -
who can I talk to?
Academic
advice will be available in Melville Hall during the first few
weeks of the semester. Watch the noticeboards for dates.
How
do I change my courses?
You have
two weeks after the start of the semester to change courses. During
this time you can add and drop courses on ISIS without it showing
on your academic transcript. After this date, if you want to ADD
a course you will have to:
- come
to the Faculty Office
- complete
a course variation form
- have
the signed approval of your lecturer
- pay a
non-refundable admin fee
BE CAREFUL:
If you drop a course after 31 March (Semester 1) or 31 August
(Semester 2) you will be charged HECS and your academic transcript
with have a ‘withdrawn’ code on it.
Who
do I go to if I’m having trouble with my course?
Your tutor
or lecturer. You will find out who your tutor is when your tutorial
groups are finalised. They are there to help and advise you on
any problems you may be having.
What
is a pre-requisite course?
If the course
you are trying to enrol in says there is a prerequisite course
it means you have to complete that course before you can enrol
in the one you want to.
What
is status?
If you have
already studied at another university you may be eligible for
credit towards your ANU Arts degree. To apply for status:
- get
an Application for Status form from the Faculty Office
- fill out
the form and attach a transcript and descriptions of the courses
you want credit for (usually a university handbook entry)
- hand in
the completed form to the Faculty Office
- consideration
of status applications can take up to six weeks to be assessed
What
is a permission code?
Sometimes
when you try to enrol in a course on ISIS it will lock you out,
saying you do not have the prerequisites to enrol. What do you
do?
- You can
get a “Permission to Waive Prerequisites” form from
the School
Office or Faculty Office.
- Take it
to the lecturer of the course and get their signature of approval.
- Take the
signed form to the School Offi ce to get a permission code.
- Use the
permission code to ‘override’ ISIS.
What
is 'registration of major'?
You don’t
need to know what your majors will be in first year. But sometime
in your second year you will need to register your majors with
the Faculty Office. In a single BA you have to complete two majors
and at least one in a combined degree.
How
do I get my student card?
You can collect
your card at Student Administration, Pauline Griffin Building.
How
do I find my lectures and tutorials?
Room numbers,
buildings and times of lectures are available at
timetable.anu.edu.au.
Keep checking lecture details for the first couple of weeks as
they can change. Details of tutorials and how to sign up will
be given to you in your fi rst lecture. Tutorial sign-up sheets
are either available at the School Administration Offices during
the first week of classes, or you can sign-up online.
The main Arts
building codes on the timetable are:

How
do I work out my timetable?
Timetables
are available at timetable.anu.edu.au.
Check this site for times and locations of lectures and examinations.
The site allows you to build a class timetable of any courses
you select - even if you’re not enrolled in them. You can
see your personal class timetable, setting out your current enrolment
through ISIS.
Timetable
clashes
Clashes happen.
Often you will just have to manage the clash if there are no alternative
courses you can enrol in. If you can’t make the lectures
for one course, find out if they are taped, or if notes are available
on the web.
Class
attendance
If you are
unable to get to lectures or tutorials due to work or family
commitments, or illness, you must keep your lecturer and tutor
informed at all times. Please note that some courses include an
element of attendance and participation in the final grade. Failure
to do so may result in failure in the course.
Where
do I buy my books?
- The ANU
Co-Op Book Shop in Union Square. Join the Co-Op and get 10%
off all books.
- The second-hand
bookshop in the Student Association office (Building 17a Union
Court).
What
is a reading brick?
Reading bricks
are extra readings supplied by lecturers to help you in your
course. Not all courses have reading bricks. Your lecturer will
tell you if
you need to buy a reading brick at your first lecture.
