Recovering Steels Creek

In the aftermath of the Black Saturday fires, an ANU-led project is helping one Victorian community record its own story of fear, loss and recovery.

Steels Creek — a small settlement in the Yarra Valley, south of Kinglake — lost 10 community members on Black Saturday. As a way of recovering from the event, residents of Steels Creek approached environmental historian Professor Tom Griffiths from ANU’s College of Arts and Social Sciences to collaborate on a community history project.
