Prize to Assist with Publication of PHD Thesis

The CASS Humanities and Creative Arts ANU E Press Editorial Board is offering a prize of $5,000 for the best completed and passed PhD thesis submitted to it for publication.

Half the prize will be paid in cash to the successful applicant, and the other half will be to meet expenses associated with having the manuscript professionally copy edited and indexed.

Eligibility: Any thesis from a postgraduate student registered with an academic location within CASS that has been passed since 1st January 2005.

Nomination for the prize: Nominations will be through the Head of the relevant academic location within CASS. Each location may nominate up to two theses. The nomination should be accompanied by  (a) the original examiners’ reports; (b) a one page statement from the student setting out the work proposed to be carried out on the thesis in preparation for publication; (c) a one page statement from the head of location in support of the nomination. There are no forms for the nomination.

Timeframe:  The closing date for nominations will be the 9th November 2009. A decision will be made by the 14th December 2009.  The prize-winner will be expected to have completed revisions to the thesis and have had it copy edited by 30th June 2010.

Publication form: the manuscript will be published free in electronic form, but it will also be available as a print-on-demand hard copy at a little above production costs.
