16 April 2012

The Australian Intervarsity debating championships, affectionately known as ‘Easters’ was held at the ANU from 10-14 April.

Attracting over 450 students from around Australia the tournament provided a unique opportunity to gather some of Australia’s brightest students on the ANU campus showcasing the University.

In the grand final, University of Sydney Union 3 defeated the University of Queensland 1 in a split 7-2 decision on the topic ‘That vigilantism should be a defence to criminal charges in jurisdictions with extremely high crime rates’.

Professor Toni Makkai, Dean and Head of the College of Arts and Social Sciences, presented the award to the winning team following the grand final.

As one of the main sponsors of the tournament CASS was proud to be involved in such a prestigious event and pleased with the tournament’s success.
