Research Themes

Research in the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS) is a critical objective of our academic and intellectual endevours and the College’s international profile.

Currently, research in the College is focused around seven key research themes. These interdisciplinary themes are areas in which the College has research strength and capacity and which traverse the three main pillars of College activities (creative arts, humanities and social sciences).

The themes are intended to encourage wider intellectual discourse and enable the College to contribute significantly to matters of major public concern, and to have an impact in the domain of public culture. Seminars, conferences and other events are offered by research theme areas.

CASS Research Themes:

Comparative Public Policy, Government and International Relations

Crossing Cultures, Crossing Time

Globalisation and the Population Dynamics of Australia

Indigenous Societies, Art and Culture

Lives, Literature, Languages

Practice Led Research

Public and Private Reasoning
