Visitors to this year’s You Are Here festival will find themselves participating in the annual experimental art bonanza in strange and exciting ways.
They’ll be able to make music by pushing in and pulling out furniture drawers
. They’ll be invited to escape their “human repression and insecurities” by donning elaborate masks
. And they’ll be encouraged to find and read letters
left around the city detailing some interesting moments in Canberra’s history.
Festival producer Morgan Little says that the team is excited to show off the range of work unique to Canberra and to You Are Here.
“We've got a hugely talented wealth of artists, experimenting and emerging, and we can't wait to show people what they've been working on,” he says.
Highlights of this year’s festival include Electric Avenues
, which Morgan describes as a fantastic night of arts in Haig Park, Braddon.
“We have a plethora of festival artists coming together to fill the park with music, art and good company,” Morgan says.
“There'll be food and drink stalls too, so people can really make a night of it.”
She also mentions House-Bound
, the festival’s theatre stream this year where audiences will get cosy in a lounge room and catch a variety of live performance.
“Both nights will be chock full of intense drama and riotous comedy, and we'll even feed you!”
