ANU School of Philosophy PhD student Hayden Wilkinson has been awarded a 2018 Fulbright Postgraduate Scholarship to study in the United States.
Mr Wilkinson will be joining Princeton University's Department of Philosophy.
"I still can't quite believe it. The Fulbright Scholarship will give me the chance to discuss my work with some of my intellectual heroes," says Mr Wilkinson.
"Philosophy isn't an empirical science so, if you want to test your ideas, the best way to do it is by discussing them with lots of really clever people and letting them try to poke holes. That makes it incredibly valuable to be able to work with so many leading philosophers.
"A lot of the major philosophy conferences are also held on the east coast of America and Europe so this will be a great opportunity to attend those conferences as well."
Mr Wilkinson's research focuses on ethics and on the ethical theories by which we evaluate everyday moral decisions.
He will travel to the United States in November 2018 and will be based at Princeton for eight months.
Mr Wilkinson is originally from Bentley, on the far north coast of NSW.
