Happy 25th anniversary, ANIP!

Speaker of the House Scott Ryan, ANU Vice-Chancellor Brian Schmidt and President of the Senate Tony Smith cut the cake at ANIP’s 25th anniversary alumni reception, Parliament House, Canberra, September 2018

2018 marked the 25th anniversary of the Australian National Internships Program (ANIP). To celebrate this milestone, we held alumni reception events in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra, reuniting alumni spanning ANIP’s 25-year history, and bringing together hosts, interns and ANU colleagues.

The first ANIP alumni reception took place at ANU house in Melbourne on 28 March, with an address by ANU Chancellor The Honourable Professor Gareth Evans, and attended by Professor John Power who established ANIP in 1993, and Professor Robert Campbell, ANIP’s longest-serving director.

Celebrations continued with the second ANIP alumni reception at Parliament House in Sydney on 5 April, also attended by Professor Campbell, with an address by Associate Professor Laurence Brown, ANIP’s current director.

The 25th anniversary celebration culminated in a gathering of over 200 alumni from 1993 to present at Parliament House in Canberra on 18 September. Presiding Officers Tony Smith and Scott Ryan and The Australian National University’s Vice-Chancellor Brian Schmidt spoke at this event. Several past ANIP Directors were in attendance, including Professor John Power, Professor Robert Campbell and Dr Jenny Hutchison, along with a number of Parliamentarians, hosts, current ANIP interns and ANU staff.

ANIP alumni enjoyed browsing through the photos from years past and reuniting with their peers. A publication was produced to mark the occasion, filled with quotes from ANIP alumni and hosts from 1993 to present. Download a PDF of the publication from the ANIP website: http://anip.anu.edu.au/about/history

Thank you to all who helped us celebrate ANIP’s 25th anniversary. Here’s to the next 25 years!
