CASS students win New Colombo Plan 2018 scholarships

Three CASS students have been selected for the Australian Government's New Colombo Plan (NCP) Scholarships for 2018.
 
The NCP Scholarships gives Australian students the opportunity to study up to a year in the Indo-Pacific region, as well as the option to undertake an internship for a further six months.
 
The three CASS recipients are Annie Zhou, who is a CASS-College of Law student, and will study at the National University of Singapore, Adam Silverwood, also a CASS-College of Law student, who will study at the University of Hong Kong and Catia Rizio, a CASS-College of Asia and the Pacific student, who will study at the University of Yangon in Myanmar.
 
Nine ANU students overall won scholarships. Two of the ANU scholars, Aidan Myatt (ANU College of Asia and the Pacific) and Betty Xiong (ANU Joint College of Sciences and ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science), were named Fellows as the top students for their host countries.
 
ANU Vice-Chancellor Professor Brian Schmidt congratulated the scholarship winners.
 
"ANU has a strong global outlook with our graduates among the world's most employable," Professor Schmidt said.
 
"The New Colombo Plan is a wonderful initiative, exposing students to new ideas and different cultures. The University strongly supports opportunities for students to live and study in another country.
 
"On behalf of the University, I congratulate the ANU New Colombo Plan Scholarship winners."
 
The other NCP Scholars for 2018 are:
 
  • Aidan Myatt, from the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, who will study at Université de la Nouvelle-Calédonie in New Caledonia.
  • Betty Xiong, from the ANU Joint College of Sciences and ANU College of Engineering and Computer Science, who will study at the National University of Singapore.
  • Geoffrey Flugge, from ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, who will study at The University of Calcutta in India.
  • Oliver Friedmann from the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, who will study at the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka.
  • Sophie Hewitt, ANU College of Asia and the Pacific and ANU College of Law, who will study at the Universitas Gadja Mada and Universitas Muhammadiyah in Indonesia.
  • Tracy Beattie, ANU College of Asia and the Pacific and ANU College of Law, who will study at Yonsei University in South Korea.
