ANU and Singapore students visit Singaporean High Commission
ANU and NTU Singapore students met the Deputy High Commisioner Shivakumar Nair (third from right) during their recent visit to the Singaporean High Commission in Canberra.
Singaporean students attending The Australian National University have enjoyed a private tour of the Singaporean High Commission in Canberra.
They met with Deputy High Commissioner and Counsellor, Shivakumar Nair, and toured the grounds of the diplomatic mission in the suburb of Yarralumla.
The students included those enrolled programs in the ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences, and also their colleagues from Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore doing their study abroad program at ANU.
“The visit was a great opportunity for Singaporean students to get a better understanding of the work of their diplomats,” Professor Jacqueline Lo, ANU College of Arts and Social Sciences Associate Dean (International), said.
“The opportunity for an extended discussion with Mr Shivakumar was especially engaging and wide-ranging, covering issues such as Singapore-Australia relations, ASEAN regionalism, the Canberra winter, and the value that an international education can bring.”
It was also a good chance for students to reflect on the value of an ANU education within this international context, Professor Lo added.
The excursion is one element of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, which Australia and Singapore signed in 2016 to enhance strategic, trade, economic, defence, and people to people links.
