ADSRI employees claim Book of the Year award in Iran

Professor Peter McDonald, Director of the Australian Demographic and Social Insitute in collaboration with two other ADSRI employees has won the World Prize for Book of the Year of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The award is given by the Iran Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance and over 2000 book titles were submitted to the officiating secretariat.

McDonald, Professor Abbasi-Shavazi, and Dr Hosseini-Chavoshi co-authored the 2009 book, The Fertility Transition in Iran: Revolution and Reproduction. 

During 2000-2003 McDonald, Abbasi-Shavazi, and Hosseini-Chavoshi conducted research which entailed a three-year Wellcome Trust project on Iran Fertility Transition Survey in collaboration with the Division of Population Research of the University of Tehran and the Iran Ministry of Health in four provinces of Gilan, Sistan and Baluchistan, West Azarbaijan, and Yazd.  The outcome of this research was the publication of their awarded book. 

Professor Jalal Abbasi-Shavazi and Dr Hosseini-Chavoshi are continuing their work with ADSRI looking at abortion in Iran and Indonesia.  Further more they are investigating issues of fertility, migration, and family structures in Iran and the region. 

Director of ADSRI, Professor McDonlad, is increasingly involved in research on Indonesian population policy.
