WebDAV options
WebDAV stands for Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning. By creating a WebDAV connection you will be able to move your files from one place to another, i.e., from the place that hosts your folders and files on your computer (WebDAV Option A), or the server that hosts your folders and files on WebCT (WebDAV Option B).
The general WebDAV server address is
https://wattlecourses.anu.edu.au/webdav/moodledata-server.php/
Let's say you have your course folders and files all organised on your computer. With WebDAV Option A, you simply set up a WebDAV connection to Wattle, and use it to transfer your files from your computer to your Wattle site. Your folder and file structure will be retained. Here's how:
1. Find out the WebDAV server address for your Wattle site.
- Go to your Wattle site and copy the 'view id number', i.e., the number at the end of your Wattle site address that appears after 'id='. For a site with the address <http://wattlecourses.anu.edu.au/course/view.php?id= 1361>, the number you are after is '1361.'
- The general WebDAV server address is https://wattlecourses.anu.edu.au/webdav/moodledata-server.php/ Your WebDAV address will be that address, plus your course id number at the end.
- So, for a Wattle site with the id number 1361, your WebDAV server address will be
https://wattlecourses.anu.edu.au/webdav/moodledata-server.php/1361
2. Create a WebDAV connection to your Wattle site.
-
Open a Finder window
-
Choose Go > Connect to server. This is where you will create your WebDAV connection.
-
Under Server Address, paste in the WebDAV server address for your site (don't forget the numbers at the end!).
-
Click Connect.
-
You will be asked to authenticate your access to the WebDAV File System. Enter your UniID (u number) and password.
-
Your WebDAV Wattle volume will open up and should be accessible through your desktop or through the Finder.
3. Move your folders and files from your computer into your WebDAV volume. This is a simple drag-and-drop operation.
4. Once things are in your WebDAV volume, they will also appear in your Wattle Files area. Anything you do in your WebDAV volume will be replicated in your Wattles Files area.
5. You can disconnect your WebDAV volume, but you will have to reconnect each time you want to access it again.
Let's say you have your course folders and files all organised in WebCT. - The general WebDAV server address is https://wattlecourses.anu.edu.au/webdav/moodledata-server.php/ Your WebDAV address will be that address, plus your course id number at the end.

NOTE: The files that you import from WebCT into Wattle will not be organised and cannot be reorganised later without breaking links to the files you have imported.
- Go to your Wattle homepage
- Click on ‘Import’. It’s half-way down your Adminstration block.
- Choose the course you want to import from the ‘Courses I have taught’ drop-down menu.
- Click ‘Use this course.’ You can check the bits you want to import, uncheck the bits you don't want to import, or just leave everything as it is if you want to import everything from your course.
- Click ‘Continue.’ Your content will be imported. This may take some time, depending on how much material you wish to import.
- You will be looking at a page that is full of text. Scroll down to the bottom of the page. You will see a message that says, “Import complete! Continue to your course.” Click ‘Continue.’ All your content will be moved across but it will not be organised – in fact, it will be a bit of a mess. If you have a smallish course, it shouldn’t take too much time to reorganise things.
- If you visit your Files area, accessible via the Administration block, you will see that all your files are brought across, but they may not be structured as you wish. Remember: the files that you import from WebCT into Wattle will not be organised and cannot be reorganised later without breaking links to the files you have imported.
